Lessons from the garden: Sustainability

Morning Melanin! Well family it’s officially Autumn! Recent temperatures have been warmer than I expected. Daring me to extent my gardening season into the fall. I do this every year family. I tell myself that I am going to do some fall gardening and just as soon as the weather begins to turn colder…talk about second thoughts! Lol. What can I say? I’m a spring baby! Everything’s planted so we’ll see what happens. Your guess is as good as mine!
It’s harvest time family. A time of honest reflection and if necessary, course correction. I started typing “it’s the end of my grow season” and quickly realized that was misleading. The truth is that growth is an ongoing process if you work it! If you followed me last year when I talked about Seasonal Healing, then you may remember that even in winter, once all the leaves have fallen and the days are cold and dark, there is still change and growth just under the surface. Even the strongest tree sheds it’s leaves and appears to go dormant. But if you look closely, you can see it…just beyond the surface the tree is still active. It is strengthening its roots in preparation for the new season. Well, we are also encouraged to take time to shed (old behaviors and mindsets), strengthen our roots/foundation and prepare or make space for the new. Because every season has the potential to bring us closer to producing fruit (purpose). You reap what to sow family!
So, what seeds have you sown? And what fruit have these seeds produced? Are you learning your lessons or repeating the same ineffective and unproductive patterns? As winter approaches, I like to take time to reflect. What patterns no longer serve me? What patterns are blocking my progress? Are these patterns (good and bad) sustainable? If I continue to make the same choices, will I produce different fruit? Making time to Take a Step Back and See the Bigger picture allows you to be more purposeful in you decision making. To be more intentional about your next steps towards personal and spiritual growth and development. To practice self-attunement and discernment. After all, Mindful Living requires action! So be the tree family!
